WXV 2023 Wrap Up
Both Japan and Kazakhstan ended their WXV 2023 with losses, the Japan Sakura Fifteen going down to Scotland in WXV 2, and Kazakhstan losing heavily to Fijiana in WXV3 0-118. The results meant both teams ended 5th in their respective division in 2023.

There was admittedly some confusion over which teams will be playing in WXV 2024, based on the media reports, the in-game commentary and our own reporting based on the weekly World Rugby updates.
According to Scrumqueens, no team is guaranteed a spot in any particular 2024 WXV competition and all teams have to earn their places via regional competitions regardless of where they may finish in the WXV 2023 – we can’t say this is something that was clearly explained from the onset of this tournament and why have relegation from WXV 2 and 3 but this is verified by the format, according to World Rugby, which can be found here.
WXV 2 2023
Italy beat the USA 30-8 in the final WXV 2 game, but this was an agonising 3 points short of toppling Scotland from the top of the log who won by the narrow points differential as both sides had 15 log points. Italy had a chance to secure the title when they were rewarded with a penalty as the clock ticked over the 80-minute mark but opted for a scrum which was ensured by a knocked-on ball to ensure Scotland won the 2023 WXV 2 title.
The Springbok Women beat Samoa 33-7 to ensure the Pacific islanders ended last in WXV2 in 2023.
Japan vs Scotland – Result 7-38
Japan put up a good fight against the Scots (leading for the majority of the first half), but eventually fell 38-7. The bonus-point win put the Europeans in contention to win the 2023 WXV 2 title.
Final standings:
- Scotland
- Italy
- USA
- South Africa
- Japan
- Samoa
WXV 3 2023
Ireland were crowned the WXV 3 2023 champions with their 15-13 victory over Spain in Dubai on Saturday 18th October 2023, recovering from going 10-0 down at The Sevens Stadium.
Kenya beat Colombia 21-5 and their victory secured their region’s position in WXV 3 and Colombia and would head to the playoff to maintain a spot for the region in 2024.
Kazakhstan vs Fiji – Result 0-118
Fiji handed the Kazakhstan Nomads their heaviest defeat, more than the 109-0 win Ireland inflicted on Kazakhstan in the opening round of the WXV 3 2023.
Fijina Luisa Tisolo scored 34 points (two tries and 12 conversions) on her way to setting a new record for most points by a player in a test. Winger Adita Milinia ran in four tries to equal the record held by Reapi Ulunisau and Ilisapeci Delaiwau, while outside-centre Merewairita Neivosa also added a hat-trick of tries.
Final standings:

- Fiji
- Spain
- Kenya
