World WheelChair Rugby Seeking Hosts for Major Tournaments
World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) has announced it is currently seeking hosts for the 2024 Paralympic Qualification Tournament and the 2026 World Championship.
The WWR said via Tim Johnson (Competitions Working Group Lead) online “The event requirements, bid process and application documents are available on the WWR website… We encourage all members to consider the benefits of hosting events and are available to discuss any concerns you may have or to simply talk you through any part of the overall process.”

2024 Paralympic Qualification Tournament Bid
As part of the qualification system for the Wheelchair Rugby competition at the 2024 Paralympic Games, WWR will run a Paralympic Qualification Tournament to determine the final three qualification positions for the 2024 Paralympic Games.
- 8 participating teams
- The 2024 WWR Paralympic Qualification Tournament will be held between February and March of 2024.
- WWR Licensed competition level.
- Host bidder must have a position on the WWR World Ranking List
- The Host Application must be submitted to WWR no later than 31 July, 2023
WWR 2026 World Championship Bid
The WWR Wheelchair Rugby World Championship is held every four years and is considered the premier event in the WWR calendar. WWR says that the “past World Championship events have been successful in terms of logistical support, sport technical delivery, spectator participation, and athlete performances.
- 12-team WWR World Championship.
- The WWR would like the 2026 World Championship to be hosted between July 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026.
- Expressions of Interest are to be submitted by April 30, 2023.
