World Rugby U20 Trophy 2019
The World Rugby U20 Trophy 2019 is happening in São José dos Campos, Brazil, from 9-21 July. The Japan U20 and Hong Kong U20’s are both taking part in the World Rugby U20 Trophy.
Whereas the U20 Championship features the top tier teams and started on 4th June in Argentina, no Asian teams are taking part this year after Japan was relegated from the Championship in 2018. The World Rugby U20 Trophy 2019 will be an important stepping stone and development rugby tournament for the Asian rugby powerhouses. This is the 12th edition of the World Rugby U20 Trophy and the winner will gain promotion to the main Championship in 2020.
The tournament is the 1st time Brazil will host a World Rugby global 15s competition. The nation, of course, hosted the 7s at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Brazil 7s ladies have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 7s and HSBC World Sevens Series next year.
