World Rugby Pacific Challenge 2020
The World Rugby Pacific Challenge 2020 kicked off today on 6th March and will run until the 14th March 2020 with 4 nations represented: Japan, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga.
Fiji has won the competition for 4 straight years and all four teams have been involved since 2016. World Rugby says the “tournament plays a key role in the development pathway for all the countries involved.”
(Very little information was released about the tournament by World Rugby until the eve of the tournament).
Which teams play at the World Rugby Pacific Challenge 2020?
Four nations are represented by their Junior U20 teams:
- Junior Japan
- Fiji Warriors
- Samoa A
- Tonga A
Junior Japan’s starting XV includes 9 players that helped them win the World Rugby U20 Trophy title in 2019 and promotion to this year’s World Rugby U20 Championship.
Junior Japan have finished second behind Fiji for the last three years.

The World Rugby Pacific Challenge will be streamed live on www.world.rugby and World Rugby’s Facebook and YouTube channels, although geo-blocking will apply in Fiji and New Zealand.
