Uzbekistan Rugby plans to grow the game
The Uzbekistan Rugby Federation (URF) is planning to grow the game of rugby in the country, with a recent high-level meeting held in October 2020 outlining the plans to increase the number of players and participation.

On October 29th 2020, the Uzbekistan Rugby Federation said the meeting was held to discuss the role, responsibility and efficiency of the leaders in the development of rugby in our country.
In attendance at the meeting were the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Rugby Federation of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev, Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Avazzhon Karimov, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Rugby Federation of Uzbekistan Oybek Kasimov, as well as representatives of the other ministries and departments.
Chairman of the Rugby Federation of Uzbekistan, Sodik Safayev, presented a report on the progress of rugby and the projects held to develop rugby sport in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In total, 33 additional sections and clubs were organised which were attended by more than 500 athletes. In addition, to train qualified rugby players in the 2020-2021 academic year, 36 students were admitted to the rugby faculty of the National University of Uzbekistan, and 15 students were admitted to the University of Physical Culture and Sports.
The Rugby Union also said it had already received approval for a media plan to popularise rugby.
Uzbekistan Rugby Championship 7s 2021
Finally, a system of monitoring the country’s sports schools has been also been implemented.
Following the meeting, the URF announced a round of 7s rugby for the Uzbekistan Rugby Championship 7s for women and men.
There are also plans to hold a University “Student League” which will determine the Champions of Uzbekistan 2020.
