With the Sunwolves getting kicked out of Super Rugby, the JRFU board facing criticism, with JRFU Honorary President Yoshiro Mori stepping down in April and urging others to do the same, and question marks about the impact of the RWC 2019, Kyodo News broke the story earlier today that Ryota Kabashima, the flyhalf at Toyota Verblitz, was arrested by the police for possession of narcotics.
In the article from Kyoto News, they said the 28-year-old Kabashima, who is also an employee of Toyota Motor Corp., was arrested on suspicion of violating the narcotics control law over the alleged possession of about 1 gram of cocaine.
The rugby union player has denied the charges. However, Toyota Motor Corp. has suspended their Top League team’s operations for the time being and it is possible it will impact Jake White’s team Toyota Verblitz team from playing the upcoming Top League Cup.
Toyota Verblitz finished fourth in the Japan Rugby Top League in the most recent season.
