Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Rugby Sevens Match Schedule
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Rugby Sevens Match Schedule has been confirmed with games being played from 26-28 July 2021 for the men, and the women’s tournament following from 29-31 July 2021.
World Rugby Chief Executive Alan Gilpin said: “With today’s confirmation of the match schedule we move an important step closer to the highly anticipated kick-off for Olympic rugby sevens in Tokyo.
Rugby sevens have captured the imaginations of millions of people around the world, attracting an estimated 30 million new fans on the Olympic debut at Rio 2016.”
The organisers of the Olympic Games also confirmed in June 2021, that a maximum of 10,000 fans will be allowed to attend venues at this year’s rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (although overseas fans are still not permitted).
Olympic Games Rugby Sevens Match Schedule
With the pools for the Tokyo Olympics confirmed in June 2021, the tournament will get underway with the men’s Rio 2016 Olympic champions Fiji playing hosts Japan in the opening match on 26 July 2021.
The men’s competition will culminate with the gold medal match at 18:00 local time on 28 July. See the full men’s Rugby sevens schedule here.
The women’s competition gets underway on 29 July with France playing Fiji. Japan is set to start their campaign against reigning Olympic champions Australia in the fourth game of the day.
The women’s gold medal match will take place at 18:00 local time on 31 July 2021.
