Thailand Rugby Union cancels 2020 Club & Uni season
The TRU (Thailand Rugby Union) has made an announcement that the XVs 2020 Club and University season has been cancelled due to COVID-19, but it hopes to resume the 7s and schools rugby formats in September 2020.
TRU Championships 2020
On their Facebook page, the TRU issued the statements in Thai and English. The main three points from their meeting on May 6th 2020 are:
- The Thailand 7s Championship remains unchanged for 2020.
- The Thailand 15s Schools Championship remains unchanged for 2020.
- The Thailand national Club and University Championships for 2020 have been cancelled.
The TRU is following advice from the Thailand government and Asia Rugby on when training and competitions can commence, but it is hoping by September the aforementioned tournaments can kick-off.
Social Tournaments in Thailand in 2020
There are some social rugby tournaments due in the second half of 2020, which hopefully will be able to go ahead. These include:
- Phuket Tens 2020: The tournament was looking at provisional dates for October 2,3,4 depending on interest as the initial plans for June were unlikely.
- Pattaya Tens 2020: No official date for the tournament was confirmed so we assume it won’t be happening in 2020.
- Southerners Women’s Rugby 10s 2020: Scheduled for the 19th September 2020, the all-ladies rugby tournament at this point in time looks ok to go ahead.
- RBSC 10s rugby tournament 2020: The Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) Tens rugby 2020 tournament is set for Saturday, November 21st 2020.
