Thailand Rugby Union 15s Rugby Season 2019

The Thailand Rugby Union (TRU) has announced the dates for the 2019 15s Rugby season which commences in late August.

What teams are playing in the TRU League?

The schedule released is currently only in Thai, but there appear to be two pools of teams including the following rugby clubs:

• Old Bangkok Bangers
• Southerners Rugby
• RBSC
• Thai Air Force
• Thai Police
• OV

The TRU 15s League will commence on August 24th and the pool stages will be completed by the 28th September. The Finals playoffs will be played before a Cup Final on 12th October. All of these teams and matches will be played in Bangkok.

The Thai Rugby Union has quite a poor reputation for releasing schedules and then changing them at short notice in recent years.

In addition, the local Thailand referees also face alleged accusations of bias within the league and rugby tournaments in Thailand against foreign teams and players.

Thai National Rugby team

The Thailand national men’s 15s team competed in the Asia Rugby Championships Division 2 in May against UAE, Kazakhstan and Guam. They lost to UAE but beat Kazakhstan to remain in Division 2 in 2020.

There are a high number of 7s, 10s and XVs rugby tournaments in Thailand throughout the year. Some of the most popular include the Bangkok Tens, Bangkok Sevens, Phuket Tens and RBSC Tens.
