Sunwolves claim historic win in Super Rugby 2019
The Sunwolves, the Japanese-based Super Rugby franchise who play home games in Japan and Singapore, claimed their first away win in their Super Rugby history, and they claimed the scalp in New Zealand!
Die-hard Sunwolves fans, and Asian rugby fans, in general, will mark down Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 as a special day as the 30-15 result over the NZ Chiefs in Hamilton was one of the big upsets in Super Rugby history but also thoroughly deserved by the Sunwolves.
The New Zealand commentary team was equally in awe and surprised by the intensity, skillset, and pressure displayed by the Sunwolves side. This is also a team missing most of their Japanese national team players who are in camp until around Round 5 or 6 of the competition.
The Sunwolves lost their 1st game of the 2019 Super Rugby season versus the Sharks from South Africa (10-45) and were narrowly beaten last week by the NSW Waratahs from Australia 30-31, both at home. They next play the Blues in NZ next Saturday before home games versus the Reds (Australia) and the Lions (Sout Africa).
