SEA 7s 2025 – Teams Confirmed

The SEA 7s returns to be part of the Singapore SVNS Festival lineup in 2025 and will take place from 4-5 April at the Jurong West Stadium with 7 Men’s teams and 6 Women’s teams confirmed to take part – the finalists will play at the National Stadium on Saturday 5th April.
Updated 4 April 2025 – Schedule & Confirmed Squads
The 13 national and representative teams hail from 6 counties in Southeast Asia and Singapore Rugby says they have one goal as they “battle for Southeast Asia’s rugby supremacy” and that fans can expect “high-intensity rugby, epic matchups, music, and exclusive merch.”
The defending champions are the Malaysian men and the Thai women. The Thailand women will likely send a development squad as they will be competing in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Challenger 3rd leg in April in Krakow but may use the tournament to get players match-fit and give some players the opportunity to force themselves into the European trip touring squad.
For the Philippines, the selected women’s and men’s teams form part of the Rising Stars program – which the PRFU explains “is a pathway program composed of local-based heritage men’s and women’s players selected from the High-Performance Program 7s (HPP 7s) of the PRFU”. They aim to develop local heritage players and provide more opportunities for them to hone their skills through international exposure to high-level matches across Southeast Asia.

SEA 7s 2025 – Important Preparation For Asian 7s Tournaments
If the rumours are correct, the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2025 may be a two-leg 12-team format later (taking place later in the year) which would mean that the Singapore men and women, now under newly appointed Head Coach Paul Tietjens, will not be playing in the region’s second Trophy 7s tier, so the SEA 7s will be an important platform for them to prepare for the Series later in the year.
The same can be said for the Philippines men and women who won the Trophy Series in 2024 to earn the right to play in the top tier in Asia, as well as Malaysia and Thailand who secured a top 7 placement in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025.
Indonesia and Brunei would likely compete in the Asian Trophy 7s but more details will need to be announced by Asia Rugby.
All of the competing sides at the SEA 7s 2025 would also likely be playing the SEA Games 2025 taking place in Thailand in December 2025 – the first time the sport has been included in the regional sporting event since 2019.
