RugbyFest 2020 cancelled
RugbyFest 2020 has unsurprisingly cancelled the rescheduled date in October 2020 on the back of the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2020 being also being culled this week.
RugbyFest 2020 cancelled
The organisers of the social tens rugby tournament, which traditionally precedes the main Hong Kong Sevens rugby event, today announced the news online:
“Following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, which has recently been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation, The Hong Kong Rugby Union have recently announced that they will cancel this year’s Hong Kong Rugby 7’s. The tournament was due to take place in October 2020.
Following Hong Kong Rugby Union’s protocols, we regret to inform you that this year’s Tanner De Witt Kowloon RugbyFest will also be cancelled. We are hopeful of your understanding and ongoing commitment to the tournament and we can assure you that plans are underway to make sure the Tanner De Witt Kowloon RugbyFest tournament and evening dinner will be as entertaining as ever. We look forward to welcoming you to Hong Kong in April 2021″
Kowloon RugbyFest 2020 had already postponed its date once this year to 15th October 2020 from the 1st April 2020 due to COVID-19.
Tanner De Witt RugbyFest 2021
The organisers have confined the date for next years social rugby event will be the 1st April 2021 and it will be the 19th edition of the social tens rugby tournament in Hong Kong.
Tanner De Witt RugbyFest 2021 will be open to 24 Men’s teams and 8 women’s teams playing in a round-robin format.
- The Men’s tournament consists of with four pools each comprising of 6 teams, with semi-final stage leading to the final stage a cup, bowl, plate, and shield.
- The Women’s tournament consisting of 2 pools of four teams progressing to a cup, bowl, plate and shield competition.
- Venue: Kings Park, Hong Kong
- Date: 1st April 2021
The Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2021 is set for April 2-4 with the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens 2021 is scheduled for April 10-11 2021.
