Rugby For Good and HKCR Sign MoU

During the 2025 Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025, among several MoUs signed by Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR), they also solidified a transformative three-year Memorandum of Understanding with Rugby For Good (RFG).
This will “expand their collaborative efforts in using rugby as a catalyst for education, empowerment and community development,” said RFG and unites grassroots expertise with HKCR’s leadership in the sport, aiming to create measurable social impact across Hong Kong said a media release.
Rugby For Good Executive Director Rocky Chow said, “This partnership enables us to deepen our work in underserved areas. With HKCR’s support, we’re poised to expand coaching, education, and career opportunities for youth, ensuring rugby becomes a vehicle for lasting change.”
Mr. Chris Brooke, Chairman of HKCR, added, “Rugby has the unique ability to unite and uplift communities. This partnership allows us to amplify our reach and ensure the sport benefits all layers of society, from elite athletes to marginalised youth.”
What does the HKCR & Rugby For Good Partnership Mean?

Under the MoU, RFG becomes HKCR’s Official Charity and Social Impact Partner and the key initiatives include:
- Youth and Coach Development: Joint programmes to train coaches and athletes, leveraging HKCR’s technical resources and RFG’s community networks
- Event Access for Underserved Groups: Priority opportunities for RFG beneficiaries to attend flagship events like the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens
- Sustainability Initiatives: Collaborative projects to advance environmental and social sustainability in rugby programmes
- Collaborative Project and Event Delivery: RFG will support HKCR in managing the implementation and outcomes of funded initiatives, ensuring alignment with social impact goals. This includes co-delivering events such as the Hong Kong Sport & Sustainability Summit and Value of Sport Lunch to integrate community engagement themes
In addition, the partnership will prioritise transparency and measurable results through transparent reporting with regular audits and social impact evaluations to maintain accountability, as well as event integration and jointly organised events to highlight shared goals and encourage community engagement.
