Pakistan Rugby Union Votes In New Leadership for 2025-2029

Rizwan Malik has been voted in as the Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) President along with the new office-bearers elected for the next four-year term running from 2025-2029.
Incoming PRU President Rizwan Malik has said he will focus on “player development, infrastructure growth, and international collaborations, saying, “This is a new era for Pakistan rugby, and we are committed to creating more opportunities for young talent. Our goal is to take Pakistan rugby to the next level, both locally and internationally.”
According to a statement online and to PRU Secretary General Salman Muzaffar Shaikh, the elections were held in the presence of representatives from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and Asia Rugby.
Rizwan Malik was previously in the role of Vice President and Head of High Performance for Pakistan Rugby Union and also holds the posts of Asia Rugby Committee Chairpersons 2024-2028 for Match Officials, and has been the regional governing body’s Vice President since December 2024. In Pakistan, he has also been the former President of Punjab Rugby and Head Coach of Pakistan national Men’s rugby team.
In a post, Malik shared online on LinkedIn, he says he has “30 years of rugby experience serving the game of rugby” and that he will be working with the newly elected executive committee to “bring a fresh perspective” noting that the new leadership group includes several new members and increased female representation to “mark a progressive step toward greater inclusivity and diversity in the sport’s leadership.”
The Nation also reported him as saying of winning the election, “I am deeply honoured to be elected as Vice President of Asia Rugby. This opportunity allows me to further promote the sport I am so passionate about and to work towards its growth and development in the region. I look forward to collaborating with rugby enthusiasts across Asia to elevate the standard of the game.”

Plans for the next term include expanding rugby programs in schools and colleges in Pakistan, hosting more international events, as well as securing sponsorships to improve facilities and player training.
The PRU also aims to collaborate with international rugby bodies to raise the standard of the sport in Pakistan.
