Men’s Rugby Sevens Paris 2024 – By The Numbers
Although the Men’s Rugby Sevens Paris 2024 wrapped up already, here are some of the interesting stats from the tournament which was won by the host nation for the first time.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 featured rugby sevens with 12 men’s teams at the Stade de France from 24-27 July 2024 and saw a record crowd attendance of 69,000!
Men’s Rugby Sevens – Paris 2024 – Seven Stats To Take Away
- There is yet to be a drop goal in Olympic Rugby Sevens history!
- There were two penalty goals in Paris – the total now in Men’s 7s Olympics is only 4 ever!
- Australia captain Nick Malouf received the only red card of the tournament in the bronze medal match against South Africa. It was the second in Olympic history after Gastón Revol saw red in Argentina’s medal quarter-final against South Africa in Tokyo 2020
- Fiji has now only lost one game from the three Olympics held (17 wins in a row), and Jerry Tuwai is the only player to have three medals (two golds and a silver) – the most decorated Rugby Olympian.
- USA’s Perry Baker became the first man to score four tries in a match at the Olympic Games against Uruguay and has the record number of tries at the Olympics for the men (10).
- In total 11 yellow cards were shown in the men’s competition – there were 13 at Tokyo 2020 and 16 at Rio 2016 in the Men’s competition
- 180 tries were scored across the 34 matches in the men’s competition in Paris – five more than Rio 2016 but 15 fewer than Tokyo 2020.
Retirees From Men’s Sevens Rugby
Although more might be confirmed over the coming weeks and before the next World Rugby SVNS Series gets underway, the following players have announced they likely will retire from the game following Paris 2024:
- Gastón Revol (Argentina)
- Jerry Tuwai (Fiji)
There are several players who are well into their 30s such as Scott Curry (NZ), Rosko Specman (SA), Perry Baker (USA) among others who might have played for the last time in their national jersey (although we hope they have not).

- Osea Kolinisau (Fiji’s coach) has won a medal as a player and a coach, and he formerly was the China women’s 7s coach
- Gareth Baber is a former Hong Kong China national 7s coach who won gold with Fiji at Tokyo 2020 and is now the Consultant National Program Manager for 7s Rugby.
- USA player Lucas Lacamp used to play in Hong Kong and represented the national U20 team in 2019 before playing for USA 7s.
