Malaysian NRDP Rugby Carnival 2020
The Malaysian Rugby Union has unveiled details for the NRDP (National Rugby Development Program) Rugby Carnival in 2020. The rugby tournament is focussed on youth and development rugby and will take place from the 1-2 February 2020.
What is the NRDP?
The National Rugby Development Program is a Malaysian national level rugby development program. It’s part of the Malaysia Rugby strategic plan of “making Malaysia Asia’s No. 1 rugby nation within 5 years.” As part of this vision, rugby is introduced within primary and secondary schools (7 to 17 years old) and institutions of higher learning (17 to 25 years old).
What age groups play at the NRDP Rugby Carnival?
The NRDP Rugby Carnival is the 4th edition of the tournament in Malaysia. The Rugby carnival has the following age group categories:
- Boys U10, 11, 12 – XRugby
- Boys U15, 17, 20 – Rugby 7s
- Girls U12, U15 – Touch Rugby
- Girls U17 – XRugby
- Women U20 – Rugby 7s
What is XRugby?
XRugby, according to World Rugby:
- An adapted format of the game played on a half-pitch with reduced intensity contact.
- Designed to introduce new players to the game and retain those at risk of dropping out.
- Seven-a-side, easy to organise and offering fun and fitness.
