KL Tigers International Rugby 10’s 2024 Tournament Deemed A Success

The KL Tigers Rugby Football Club hosted the KL Tigers International Rugby 10’s 2024 Tournament at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club from 2-3 March with 157 teams (and approximately 5,000 players) from both Malaysia and overseas attending.

The KL Tigers RFC formed in 2014 and has grown in size, now with in excess of 600 players across junior rugby, ladies, men, and veterans’ teams.

The annual tournament “reflects the club’s commitment to fostering unity and sportsmanship through rugby, offering a platform for players, coaches, and volunteers to come together in a celebration of the sport” said the organisers.

In particular, KL Tigers International Rugby 10’s 2024 focus is on showcasing young athletes across various age groups from U6 to U18. The 2024 tournament welcomed 157 teams from Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, in various age groups, from U6 to U18, including a girls’ Touch Rugby section for U12, U15 and U18, and a Vets exhibition match.

In total, nearly 600 rugby contact and touch rugby games were played over the two days!

Mr. Attila Emam, President of the KL Tigers Rugby Club, said of the tournament, “The vibrant rugby community extends across every state in Malaysia and we take immense pride in delivering the largest and most exciting youth tournament in Asia Pacific, and in receiving the backing of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, who are so graciously supporting today’s event.”

As one of Southeast Asia’a largest social rugby tournaments, it attracted players and teams from across the Asia Pacific and the sport was played with an emphasis on the rugby values of integrity, passion, teamwork, discipline, and respect.

In 2024, the guest of honour was YBhg TS. Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, accompanied by Attila Emam, and Mohamad Fahmy Bin Abd Jalil, Honorary General Secretary of Malaysia Rugby.
