Kitakyushu Women’s World Rugby Sevens: Results
The Kitakyushu HSBC World Rugby Sevens Women’s Series was completed over the weekend, with both Japan and China playing as the Asian representatives. The tournament sprung a number of huge upsets and Sunday saw a number of close games with Canada victorious in Japan.
New Zealand’s Black Ferns, chasing their own record of 37 straight wins on Saturday, comfortably beat Japan 43-0, before surprise results with a draw against Russia (17-17) and then losing to France for the first time 29-7. Although NZ still progressed behind France from Group A they lost their Cup Quarter Final 26-19 to the USA.
Both Japan and China had tough pool games suffering some big losses before a better showing in each of their last pool games and Challenge Cup playoff games. They faced each other in the 11th place playoff on Sunday with China upsetting Japan in a 7-0 win.
Canada overcame the US in their semi-final while France played England and lost, leading to a Canada vs England match in the Cup Final. Congratulations to Canada for winning the tournament by beating England 7-5 in a very tight Cup Final, scoring the winning conversion two minutes into overtime.

Japan 7s ladies
The Japan women’s sevens team was in Pool A and on Saturday had the following results over the weekend:
- Japan 0-43 New Zealand
- Japan 17-33 France
- Japan 21-28 Russia
Challenge Trophy
- Japan 17-28 Fiji
China 7s ladies
China played in Pool B and the results of their games were as follows:
- China 0-47 Australia
- China 19-42 Canada
- China 26-31 Spain

- China 5-12 Spain
11th Place
The two Asian sides then met each other late on Sunday to contest the 11th place playoff which was won by China.
