Kaiser Chiefs and Pete Tong Lead The Entertainment Announced For Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025 As The Party Debuts at Kai Tak Stadium
The biggest Party Sevens on the calendar, the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025 continues its tradition of being the world’s biggest rugby and live music event as Kaiser Chiefs, Pete Tong, RubberBand, and GALA are confirmed for the first Kai Tak Stadium edition.
The 2025 Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens makes its debut at the brand new and ultra-modern Kai Tak Stadium from 28-30 March. Over the years iconic acts such as the Beach Boys, Madness, The Wailers and The Village People have entertained 40,000-strong crowds and the new stadium means an extra 10,000 more fans will enjoy live experience as well as the best rugby Sevens on the planet.
Kai Tak Sports Park is a 28-hectare Sports Park that is part of the redevelopment plan for the former Hong Kong International Airport in Kai Tak. The Sports Park features a 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium with a retractable roof.
The action starts on Friday 28th March 2025 with the first pool match kicking off at 10:30AM local time and the opening ceremony is supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board starting at 6:40PM on Friday.
What Live Music Is Confirmed – Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025
Hong Kong China Rugby will ensure fans get an unforgettable first Kai Tak Stadu experience as they put the new stadium’s state-of-the-art digital enhancements to the test with live concerts from Kaiser Chiefs, a DJ set from Pete Tong, Cantopop from RubberBand, and sports stadium anthems from GALA.
RubberBand – Friday 28th March
The Cantopop band will perform during the opening ceremony of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025. RubberBand are recognised as one of Hong Kong’s most renowned bands and has won multiple awards with ten studio albums to date.
In 2021, they went on their first world tour of Europe, North America and Taipei. The band was also invited to perform at Primavera, one of the world’s largest music festivals, held in Barcelona in 2022.
Pete Tong – Saturday 29th March at 6:35PM
Pete Tong is “widely regarded as a global ambassador for electronic music and is an accomplished producer, promoter, DJ and presenter who has helped uncover numerous acts during his illustrious career,” said the organsiers.
GALA – Saturday 29th March (Time TBC)
The Italian artist released her multi-platinum song ‘Freed from Desire’, which HKCR said “has become an anthem at live sporting events across the globe and is commonly played at FIFA and UEFA matches” and several high-profile football clubs including Manchester City, AC Milan and Newcastle United have adopted it, as has French Rugby, which has used the track since its original release almost 30 years ago.
The massive sports hit song ‘Freed from Desire’ has amassed nearly half a billion streams on Spotify and charted in multiple European countries, including going No.1 in France and Belgium, No.2 in the UK, Ireland and Italy, and is the most successful international release by an Italian artist in history.
Kaiser Chiefs – Sunday 30th March 4:45PM
English indie rockers, Kaiser Chiefs are celebrating 20 years in 2025 and have released eight original studio albums. Their debut Employment in 2005 sold over three million copies and won the band multiple awards. Some of their biggest hits include 2005’s ‘I predict A Riot’ and 2007 UK number-one hit ‘Ruby’.
The band’s name is famously based on the South African soccer/football club Kaizer Chiefs after player Lucas Radebe played in the Premiership for Leeds and the band named themselves after the players club.
