The Philippines Premiership rugby competition, the 2019 JML Premiership Shield, will have its ladies and men’s Grand Finals this weekend with two clubs contesting both titles.
The season has been played over 12 weeks and has seen 8 men’s teams and 4 ladies rugby union teams compete. However, it is two clubs that will contest both the men’s and ladies Grand Finals.
Santos Knight Frank Mavericks
Women’s Premier Division
The HMR Lady Eagles will face rivals the Santos Knight Frank Mavericks with both teams fielding a number of national team rugby players from the Philippines.
The national team recently finished second in the Asia Rugby Women’s Championship.
The Eagles will be slight favourites but anything is possible on Finals day!
Men’s Premier Division
The men’s Eagles RFC are undefeated this season and take on the Santos Knight Frank Mavericks. The Mavericks have only lost one game themselves and will look to upset the Eagles who are favourites.
Both sides also have a number of national team players that won the Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 championship recently.

Alex Menard, Competitions Manager for Philippine Rugby told the Philippines rugby website: “This year we have a seen an improvement in competition structure, it’s allowed for a more competitive based system across the league. The Mavericks will be looking to cause upsets in both matches. It will be an entertaining day this Saturday”.
