Japan Brave Blossoms vs Uruguay Preview – November 2024 Lipovitan D Tour
The Japan Brave Blossoms face Uruguay on 16 November 2024 at Chambérie Savois Stadium, France as part of the doubleheader as the USA also plays Tonga.
Uruguay and Japan will play at 14:30 local time as the first of two fixtures making up an international double-header, with Tonga vs USA following at 17:30 local time.
The Brave Blossoms are well out of the top ten now in the rankings and are placed 14th while the South American opponents in Chambery are ranked 19th. The South Americans faced and lost to France (28-43), Argentina (5-79) and Scotland (19-31) in their mid-year 2024 tests at home.
The Japanese have been on the wrong end of some big defeats against Fiji, New Zealand (19-64) and France (12-52) in their last three games, as as much as Head Coach Eddie Jones wants new players to experience test rugby, they need to be showing progress and the right results.
Japan has played Uruguay 5 times, and the Brave Blossoms have won four of those and will be hoping for a 5th win in France. This is the first time they play on neutral ground.
Jones had made four personnel changes to the starting XV which lost to France and two positional. Notably, fly-half Takura Matsunaga and Junta Hamanoon the left wing both earn their first starts.
Jones said via the JRFU, “At the moment we’re a high rucking team and that puts a lot of pressure on our support play and handling. But we’ve had a good week of preparation in that regard.
We’re putting a lot of pressure on ourselves with the sort of rugby we’re playing and we understand that. We turn the ball over too much, giving the opposition unstructured situations which to attack from.
There are two ways to look at it. One – we’ve got to improve our attention to the ball, given the way we attack, which we’re working on, and secondly, we’ve just got to make our tackles. Double tackles, slow the ball down, get set and go again. It’s the consistency of our defence that needs to improve and our ability to react quickly to unstructured situations.”
Uruguay lost to Spain last weekend 24-33 which was their 5th consecutive defeat but all against top ten opposition before the Spain clash. Their run of losses were against NZ, France, Argentina, and Scotland. Los Teros are also desperate to turn things around
Christophe Ridley (RFU) is the match referee.
The Brave Blossom’s final game of the year is on 24 November 2024 at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
