HSBC SVNS Perth marked the first time in tournament history that the women’s cup final was the last match played, and this milestone will also be made in Vancouver.

Japan Sakura 7s are now 6th in the standings and just behind Canada – they are in Pool C in Vancouver and could well secure another top-8 finish as they will face Fiji, GB, and France.

Canada women’s captain Piper Logan said: “We’re feeling super confident coming off a fourth place finish in Perth and we’ve had a really good two weeks of training. We love Vancouver SVNS, it’s our favourite tournament of the year. It’s really important to help continue to grow the game in Canada especially with our silver medal in Paris. There’s been a lot of traction with rugby here, so to have a home competition and have people come and see us play is really important.”
Canada Women Olympian, Charity Williams currently sits at 99 career SVNS tries to date and will be hopeful of breaking the 100 tries milestone, and 500 points in Vancouver.
Australia women’s captain Isabella Nasser added, “Vancouver is always really exciting, the enclosed stadium makes it different and the synthetic grass makes it a really fast and exciting game. If you want to see fun, exciting rugby with awesome energy and crowd and lots of competition, then you should be there!”

Blitzboks co-captain Impi Visser wants to improve on their disapointing ninth-place finish from 2024, “Last time around, we were a bit disjointed, and it showed in our play. Credit to the management who sorted all the little niggles out, as we arrived here a happy and determined squad, cold as it may be in Vancouver. The environment they created allows the relationships among the players to be as healthy as they can be, and we all flourish as a group because of that.
A good result here will help a lot towards our build-up for the Grand Finale in a couple of months. We are not results driven per se, and rather focussed on the execution and effort of our game plan, but a good result will be of great value to us.”
