HSBC SVNS Singapore 2024 – Guide To Singapore Rugby Festival 2024

The HSBC SVNS Singapore 2024 is the penultimate round of the season and results at the Singapore National Stadium from 3-5 May 2024 could well determine who is playing for survival in the Series in the final round in Madrid.

We look at all of the festivities planned for the Singapore Rugby Festival 2024 in the week of the HSBC SVNS Singapore 2024 with several youth, schools, clubs, national teams and even beach rugby events planned.

The tournament in Singapore has been expanded to a three-day rugby sevens festival as the Lion City tried to spice up the entertainment with a variety of musical, cultural and sporting activities.

World Rugby says in its press release; “HSBC SVNS SGP aims to deliver the ultimate immersive experience—a unique fusion of sport, entertainment, and culture against the stunning backdrop of Singapore where fans can indulge in a wide array of tantalising cuisine, savour captivating music and engage in a host of exciting activities.”

This sounds great but the event has long struggled to be a sellout and really entice regional and international fans to attend – so what is different in 2024?

World Rugby Sevens General Manager Sam Pinder said: “We are looking forward to bringing world-class rugby and a festival atmosphere once more to Singapore National Stadium.

This year’s event has expanded on the entertainment offering, with food markets, live music, artist performances and participation sports, which will allow fans to watch, play and engage in a multi-day festival of vibrant celebration and entertainment.  We can’t wait to see the fans and teams bring the rugby spirit and take the HSBC SVNS Singapore experience to the next level.” said Pinder.

HSBC Ambassadors – Singapore SVNS 2024

At least two HSBC Ambassadors have been confirmed to be in Singapore for the SVNS in 2024;

• Former Springbok 2007 RWC winner Bryan Habana
• Former Australia 7s and Olympic gold winner Alica Lucas

Singapore SVNS Activities For The Fans

Among the entertainment listed for the HSBC SVNS SGP:

• The Beach Club – DJs will be playing a mix of dance floor fillers and classic anthems.
• The Sun Stage – Located within the food market and is set to feature live music performances and interactive audience participation.
• The Sun Room and The Spring Hotel – Exclusive next-level hospitality experiences featuring premium food and drink, a full programme of entertainment in private lounges and “the best seats in the house to see all the non-stop action.”

Singapore Rugby Festival 2024

The Singapore Rugby Union had previously in 2024 posted its full schedule of events for the year, and included, is listed the Singapore Rugby Festival taking place alongside the HSBC Singapore SVNS.

There are a number of events planned as far as a week out from the SVNS but those close to the weekend include the below.

SRU Womens Development 10s Rugby 2024

The Singapore Rugby Union Women’s Development Tens will be played on April 27th at PSOEB stadium.

SRU Schools U14 7s Finals 2024

The Singapore Rugby Union U14 Sevens rugby finals will also be featured at the Singapore Rugby Festival 2024, with the finals played at the Singapore National Stadium on 4th May 2024.

Update: Saint Andrew’s and ACSI reached the finals after coming out on top at the Schools Under 14 7s and the finals will be played at the National Stadium during the SGP SVNS on Saturday 4th May, 10:30 am.

Titans Ruck and Rumble Finals 2024

The Titans RFC – Singapore is played over two days at the UWC Dover before the final matches being played at the Singapore National Stadium on 5th May 2024.

There are several categories; Minis U6/U7/U8/U9, Mixed U10/U11/U12, Boys U13/U14, Ladies U12/U14/U16, Vets O35s

• Dates: 30 April – 1st May 2024 & 5th May 2024 (Finals)

Furious 5s Beach Rugby Festival 2024

B.A.C – Singapore’s oldest and most established women’s rugby team – is organising the Furious 5s Beach Rugby Festival 2024 on 1st May at the Sentosa Siloso Beach in a 5-a-side format. There are several categories for teams to enter.

World Rugby ambassadors and international SVNS rugby players are expected to attend to watch.

SEA 7s Rugby 2024

Southeast Asia 7s will take place with pool matches on 2nd May 2024 played at the Jurong West Stadium, and the finals played at the Singapore National Stadium on Saturday 3rd May 2024.

SRU initially announced that there would be 14 teams involved from 8 countries in 2024 but on April 11th confirmed that neither Brunei nor Cambodia would be competing – with Chinese Taipei invited as a guest team.

The confirmed teams are Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and The Philippines, with Chinese Taipei is an invitational team.

The 2023 Men’s Champions were Chinese Taipei, while Thailand Women were the 2023 Champions.

(Editors note – Chinese Taipei is not a SEA member,  but at an invitational team to make up the numbers and maintain 8 teams for the men and women. Singapore will also field a B team for the men and women due to the absence of Cambodia and Brunei).

T1 Rugby Tournament – Singapore 2024

T1 Rugby Tournament (see more details on T1 here) will be played at the Kallang Football Club on the 3rd of May 2024.

• Dates: 3rd May 2024

(To be fair, many of those listed above are regular events that have previously been run at the Singapore Sevens. Our concern is that giving the week a new label with events too far out from the SVNS dates to interest any international fans means it is catering to local fans mainly – not engaging with new fans).
