HSBC Singapore Sevens 2023 – Men Set For 9th Leg of World Series
The Men’s Rugby 7s team captains gathered at Lau Pa Sat, Singapore’s most iconic Hawker Market, as they prepare for the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens at the Singapore Sports Hub from 8-9 April, while the SEA 7s takes place in the leadup to the World Sevens Series event.
Since 2016, the Singapore 7s tournament has seen four different nations lift the cup as champions, including first-ever victories for Kenya in 2016 against Fiji, and 2017 for Canada against their North American rivals, the USA.
Since flying in from Hong Kong (which attracted 75,000 fans over the three days of the historic women’s and men’s dual HK Sevens), teams in Singapore have been involved with fun-filled activities and the Men’s team captains experienced some of Singapore’s most beloved traditions – mastering the art of Teh Tarik to getting their hands dirty with Ice Kachang making.
The Singapore 7s is the ninth of eleven tournaments in the Men’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2022/2023 season and NZ will be looking to back up their dominant win in Hong Kong to further extend their lead at the top of the rankings, while other teams are chasing valuable points for Olympic 2024 qualification.
New Zealand could officially qualify for Paris 2024 with a tournament victory this weekend in Singapore.
