Meet The Legendary Rugby Players at the Singapore Sevens 2022
Fijian great Waisale Serevi, and recently retired Canadian Nathan Hirayama – will be at the Singapore Sevens in 2022.
World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee Waisale Serevi is regarded as ‘The King of Sevens’ for his stunning contribution to the game as a player and coach. He scored 1,310 points in the World Rugby Sevens Series for Fiji and has a record 297 points in the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournaments.
The five-time Cup winner at the Hong Kong Sevens, Serevi also steered Fiji to their first world series title in his first year as player-coach in 2005-2006! The man was unplayable at times.
Serevi said: “Rugby has been my true North since the age of 10. It has forged my character and filled my soul. I am humbled and proud to have worn the Fiji jersey for 21 years. The game gave me much and I will spend the rest of my days giving back to the game.”
Nathan Hirayama, Canada’s playmaker for so many years exemplifies the values of the game of sevens rugby, on and off the pitch. With a fearless reputation, he has tackled the biggest names but also side-stepped the best opponents.
“It’s been an honour to wear the maple leaf on my chest and to have been able to compete against the world’s best, alongside my friends. I’ll always care deeply about this game, and I’m looking forward to supporting the next/future gen of rugby players both here in Canada and around the world, however, I can” added Hirayama.
