HSBC NZ 7s 2020 Pools

The HSBC NZ (New Zealand) 7s rugby pools have been confirmed for both the women and men. The NZ 7s takes place in Hamilton at the FMG Stadium Waikato from 25-26th January 2020.

The Japanese men and Chinese women are the invitational teams for the Sevens rugby tournament. This is the 3rd tournament the Japanese men have been invited to in a row. The Chinese women recently shocked Hong Kong to clinch a place in the Olympics 2020 rugby 7s and make their first invitational appearance this season.

Both the NZ men and women go into their home tournament having won the previous round in South Africa.

Women’s HSBC NZ 7s 2020 Pools

This will be the 4th leg of the HSBC Women’s Sevens Series for 2019-2020. The NZ Black Ferns Sevens co-coach Allan Bunting said on the World Rugby Sevens website: “Last year was a great occasion, but to play in a world series event on home soil for the first time, alongside the men, is something the team has been looking forward to for a long time. It’s going to be incredibly special and we can’t wait.”

Men’s HSBC NZ 7s 2020 Pools

The All Blacks Sevens team and the Blitzbokke from South Africa have been the two on form teams for the men’s HSBC World Sevens Series this season after the first 2 rounds. They both sit on the same number of points on the series log with a number of teams trying to chase them down.

Tokyo 2020 Olympics Rugby 7s

There are still three places to be confirmed for the Olympics next year, one men’s and two women’s national 7s rugby teams. The repechage tournament will be held in June 2020 to determine which teams will qualify.

From Asia, the teams heading to the repechage tournament are Hong Kong (men and women), China (men) and Kazakhstan (women).

World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2020

The newly announced Challenger Series will include Japan and Hong Kong for the men. The Women’s format and teams are still to be announced by World Rugby. The Japanese men will have benefited from featuring in at least 3 HSBC World Sevens Series events.
