HKCR Hosts USFHK Sevens 2025 Finals at Kai Tak Stadium
Hong Kong China Rugby will host the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong Sevens 2025 finals at the Kai Tak Stadium on Sunday, 5 January 2025, with more than 10,000 players, officials and fans expected to attend.
Rugby will be the first sporting event at the new 50,000-seat stadium in Hong Kong which be the venue for the Cathay / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens from 28-30 March later this year, and the USFHK Sevens will be an important test run of the facilities. The Kai Tak Sports Park complex’s smaller Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground also saw the Hong Kong China Rugby Men’s XV team beat Brazil in a test match in November 2024.
USFHK Sevens 2025
In total, 18 men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams from the USFHK rugby league will participate in the competition – the first to utilise the stadium’s facilities and play on the pitch beneath the retractable roof at Kai Tak.
Mr Chris Brooke, Chairman of Hong Kong China Rugby said, “HKCR is once again honoured to have rugby front and centre at Kai Tak. Rugby has a thriving profile in Hong Kong at university level and hosting The University Sports Federations of Hong Kong, China rugby sevens tournament with 18 teams will provide an essential operational warm-up for our event planning team to prepare for the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens this March.
The opportunity for these players to enjoy what is literally a once-in-a-lifetime moment of running out onto the pitch in the new stadium will be an incredible experience, and one that we are proud to share with our playing community.”
All public entry will be from Gate F and stadium seating at Level 02 concourse level will be open on the North, East and West Stands only. The Sevens’ general admission seating policy will remain in force, with tickets in all non-corporate or non-tournament seating areas inside the stadium being open on a first come, first served basis over the event weekend.
Cathay / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025
The 50,000-capacity Kai Tak Stadium will offer a revolutionary new fan experience, including new hospitality areas. The new stadium is purpose-built for Secens with a design that incorporates changing rooms for up to 20 teams.
The renowned ‘South Stand’ will be fully upgraded at the Kai Tak Stadium and the Sevens in March will also once again include the Melrose Claymores which features the Hong Kong China Men’s sevens taking on Japan and China, while the HKCR women will play Thailand and Kazakhstan.
The 28-hectare Sports Park at Kai Tak is part of the redevelopment plan for the former Hong Kong International Airport and includes the Kai Tak Stadium, the Kai Tak Arena with the flexibility to host community sports and events of up to 10,000 seats, and the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground with a capacity of 5,000 seats.
