HKCR 2025 New Year’s Day Youth Rugby Tournament
The annual Hong Kong China Rugby New Year’s Day Youth Rugby Tournament is happening again in 2025 at the HKFC on January 1st with U16 & U19 girls and boys matches.
Traditionally, the New Year’s Day Youth rugby tournament sees the Hong Kong versus Overseas-based schoolboys and girls compete against each other to kick off the new year. The tournament at Hong Kong Football Club will host four matches with U19 and U16 boys and girls from Hong Kong (playing as the Hong Kong Dragons) competing against counterparts who are based overseas (playing as the Overseas Lions).
HKCR says, “The 2025 New Year’s Day Youth Rugby Tournament is officially on! Join us as we celebrate this annual tradition that showcases the most exciting age-grade rugby talent in Hong Kong. Many young stars of previous tournaments have gone on to proudly pull on the Hong Kong China jersey, with some alumni also representing other unions at the international level.”
This will be the 57th edition in 2025 of the historic tournament and the schedule has been confirmed as:
- U16 Girls – Naylor Wright Cup – U16 Girls – 12:30 kickoff
- U16 Boys – George White Trophy – U16 Boys – 13:50 kickoff
- U19 Girls – Lassies Quaich – U19 Girls – 15:10 kickoff
- U19 Boys – Middlesex Cup – U19 Boys – 16:40 kickoff
- Presentation of the Larry Abel Trophy for Best & Fairest Player in each match – 18:45
