GFI HKFC 10s raise HK$250,000 for the Hong Kong Cancer Fund
The GFI HKFC 10s presented a cheque for HK$250,000 to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund on Thursday 4th April 2019 after a successful Rugby Legends Tackle Cancer charity game was held.
The star-studded touch rugby exhibition game at Hong Kong Football Club saw former England flyhalf Andy Goode captain a side including Jason Leonard, Simon Shaw, Rob Vickerman, Ben Gollings, Tom Varndell, Scotland’s Tom Smith, Hong Kong’s Rowan Varty and New Zealand’s Olivia Coady.
Jim Hamilton lead a team including Waisale Serevi, Todd Clever, David Campese, Justin Harrison, New Zealanders DJ Forbes, Scott Waldrom and Terry Wright, Alesana Tuilagi and Samoa women’s international Bella Milo and Fiji’s Sam Viriviri.
The crowd was entertained to some engaging, skilful and often humorous touches of rugby. Gareth Wilde, Chairman of the tournament’s Organising Committee handed the cheque to Sally Lo, founder and Chief Executive of Hong Kong Cancer Fund after the game. She said of the game:
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited as I was when I spoke to the players in the changing room before the match! They’re a great group, giving their time up to come and play. What a fabulous, fabulous match. I was blown away.”
English legend Jason Leonard added, “It was great fun, especially when you see people like Serevi still strutting his stuff, Campese doing his trademark steps, then you see Simon Shaw and his first touch is to knock it on five yards.”
