B.A.C have confirmed they will be organising the Furious 5s Beach Rugby Festival 2024 in partnership with World Rugby in the leadup to the HSBC SVNS Singapore 2024.

The beach rugby festival will be played on 1 May 2024 at Sentosa Siloso Beach in a 5-a-side format. An all-female DJ line-up and appearances by World Rugby ambassadors, and international SVNS rugby players are all highlights this year.
As of 29th April 2024, 40 teams will compete in 97 matches across six categories throughout the day and international players from the HSBC SVNS are expected to be in attendance!
B.A.C is Singapore’s oldest and most established women’s rugby team and was founded in 1996 (formerly known as the women’s section of the Blacks Rugby Football Club).
Madeleine Lim, the President of B.A.C. said; “The Furious 5s Beach Rugby Festival is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the sport and a great platform for promoting inclusivity and accessibility in rugby.
Besides creating participation opportunities for girls and women, by reducing the technical aspects of the game, we also hope to make rugby more approachable to those who may not have played before or who may not have had the chance to do so. Furthermore, we believe that this event will foster camaraderie and meaningful connections within the community among all attendees.”
In 2023, B.A.C organised a successful beach rugby tournament with more than 300 attendees and 35 teams across age genders, groups and open categories – Players from local and international communities, including Japan, Malaysia, and Canada were involved.
In terms of entertainment, DJ Schönseven, DJ Cherish (music director for the 28th SEA Games Singapore and 8th ASEAN Para Games) and DJ Val have both been confirmed, while a watermelon-eating contest, an animal race, a giant inflatable bear, and a soapy slide competition by the beach are all planned.
Furious 5s Beach Rugby Festival 2024 Format
The Singapore beach rugby tournament “will feature diversity among self-organised teams competing in seven categories for the beach rugby tournament” said B.A.C.
The Furious 5s Beach Rugby Festival will encourage more girls and women to take up rugby in Singapore, while it will provide a fun and exciting way for all to enjoy the sport while fostering camaraderie and meaningful connections within the community.
- All games will be played according to World Rugby Leisure Rugby Laws, with variations that include tackle, ruck, rolling subs, and drawbreakers.
- Each match lasts for 8 minutes, with 1 minute and a half breaks in between.
- Squads can include 8 persons per team.
Co-Chair of Singapore Rugby Union’s Women’s Development Committee, Samantha Teo, added: “We are excited that audiences can now expect to see the inclusion of women’s fixtures in Singapore
SVNs. This will inspire more girls and women to take up rugby in Singapore and beyond and encourage female athletes to strive to compete at the highest level.

Masters category Men (35 years and over)
2024 will also be the first time the Singapore HSBC SVNS will see a full combination of men’s and women’s series at the Singapore National Stadium, with the SVNS taking place from May 3-5 2024.
