Final Day Of HSBC Singapore SVNS Will Decide 2024 League Titles
Over the past two days, there have been a number of upset results at the HSBC Singapore SVNS, culminating in more subplots and mini finals on Sunday 5th May 2024 as both the women’s and men’s League titles are still in the balance.

On a day internationally celebrated by Star Wars fans, May 4th saw some out-of-the-world matches at the Singapore National Stadium.
On the Women’s side, both top-ranked teams are into the semifinals, as Australia and NZ continue their pursuit to lift the inaugural SVNS League title, with New Zealand facing Fiji on Sunday, and Australia will take on France.
Over the course of the weekend, New Zealand rugby legend Portia Woodman-Wickliffe passed yet another milestone to score her 250th HSBC SVNS try vs Ireland on Friday.
For the relegation battle, GB has confirmed their top 8 spot by reaching the quarterfinals in Singapore, and with Brazil finishing behind them, the South Americans join South Africa, Japan and Spain in the promotion/relegation playoffs with the top four Challenger sides in Madrid.
Both SA and Japan secured historic wins over a weakened USA team, but Japan will be ruing their QF loss to Fiji, a game they really should have won but they made crucial mistakes in the big moment and credit has to also go to the Fijian defence. Japan has never made an SVNS semifinal but will play Ireland for 6th place on Sunday.
Fiji, despite the change of coach before the last leg in Hong Kong in which they had one of their lowest finishes at the Hong Kong Stadium, have had another poor weekend and will be challenging for 9/10th with Canada on Sunday.
Their Pacific neighbour Samoa has also had a poor weekend and will be joining Spain, Canada and either the USA or GB in Madrid in the relegation/promotion battle.

In another final within a final, the Irish men beat Argentina in an engaging match 21-5 in the quarterfinals – the result means they keep their HSBC SVNS League title hopes alive but will need to go on to win the Final and first overcome GB in the semifinal. The Argentinians will probably have to lose their 6th place match to South Africa to relinquish the top spot.
For team GB, they have advanced further than rivals USA in Singapore, after the USA narrowly lost their quarterfinal to NZ 19-14. Great Britain did a 35-7 demolition job on the fancied French and they will need to win their semifinal to ensure a place in Madrid and a top 8 finish on the log.
The South Africans lost to Australia in the Golden Point quarterfinal match 24-29, and the Aussies will play their rivals NZ in the semifinal.
