DHL Hanoi 10s 2020

The teams for the DHL Hanoi 10s 2020 rugby tournament in Vietnam have been confirmed by the organisers. The one-day social rugby tournament takes place on the 18th January 2020 with Women’s, Men’s, U18 Girls and Boys contact rugby as well as U13 tag rugby matches.

What is the Hanoi 10s?

This will be the second edition of the DHL Hanoi 10s. The tournament “provides opportunities for developing teams from Vietnam to compete and provides a platform to further grow the sport in Vietnam” said the organising committee.

The committee itself is formed of ChildFund Pass It Back staff and Coaches. Technical support is being provided by Series partners the Lao Rugby Federation. The Vientiane International 10s takes place the following weekend in Laos.

Who will be playing at the DHL Hanoi 10s 2020?

The Hanoi Tens supports the local Vietnamese club team, the Kim Boi Wildcats. They made their first appearance at last years tournament and their girls also played in Singapore during 2019. The Men’s 2019 champions, the WereDragons, also return to defend their title and bring a women’s team.

The U18 Boys and Girls and U13 tag teams are all Vietnamese.

In the Open competitions, teams will play each other once and then go straight into Bowl, Plate and Cup finals based on their position in the pool stages.

In the U18 competitions, teams will play each other once and then go into Cup semi-finals, followed by a Plate Final and Cup Final.

The tournament organisers also said “The U18 competition will be officiated by a small team of young Vietnamese match officials, who have been trained through the ChildFund Pass It Back program and are leading rugby development in their clubs.

Additionally, this will also be the first time that many of the U18 players have played contact rugby and the first time they have represented their village / their club. We encourage all of the international teams to show your support for the future stars of rugby in Vietnam!”

U13 Tag Rugby

There will be U13 tag rugby matches played by “the first Vietnamese rugby teams in Hanoi who will compete with some teams from Kim Boi district, Hoa Binh province.”
