The Chinese Taipei Rugby Football Union (CTRFU) or Taiwan Rugby Union, have confirmed that it will be hosting a Chinese Taipei: Return to Rugby Tournament 2020 tournament as well as a Get Into Rugby Festival from July 7-11, at the Bailing Rugby Field in Taipei.
Chinese Taipei: Return to Rugby Tournament
In an article published by Asia Rugby and submitted by the Chinese Taipei Rugby Football Union, it said the 74th National Rugby Tournament had received the approval from country’s government to go ahead.
The Chinese Taipei Rugby Football Union Secretary-General, Jeremy Pai “has been pleased with the enthusiastic response in his efforts to organize the ‘return to rugby’ and various formats and different age groups will have the opportunity to compete for national honours.”
Chinese Taipei: Return to Rugby Tournament categories
The tournament in Taipei will see the following categories compete:
- 7-A-Side Elementary School Mixed Gender Tag Rugby
- 7-A-Side Elementary School Girls’ Tag Rugby
- Junior High School 15s Rugby
- Junior High School Girls’ 7s Rugby
- Senior High School 15s
- Women’s 7s
The rugby tournament will emphasise inclusion as part of its Get Into Rugby (GIR), Rugby Retention Program. The tournament will be live-streamed said CTRFU President Herman Huang. Asia Rugby said it will also be live-streaming the tournament on Facebook.

CTRFU: Chinese Taipei Rugby Football Union
The Chinese Taipei Rugby Football Union was founded in 1946 and joined the World Rugby in 1986. The Union is one of the founding members of the Asia Rugby.
Due to political reasons, the union is called the Chinese Taipei Rugby Football Union and known as Taiwan Rugby Union.
Taiwan International Rugby Tens tournament
The Taiwan International Rugby Tens tournament was organised in 2019, and the social rugby tournament was held as part of Taipei Rugby Week, in which the Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 competition was played.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the tournament in 2020 appears to have been cancelled.
