China’s national 15s ladies beat Kazakhstan on Wednesday 31st July, 13-8 to take a slender lead into the two-leg match ARWC series.
China backed up their recent ARWC Division 1 title which saw strong wins over Singapore and the Philippines by beating the higher-ranked Kazakhs at the Jiujiang Sports Centre, China.
Kazakhstan made life difficult for themselves in the second half, after leading at the break, by playing for 20 minutes with a player down due to successive yellow card sin bins.
Kazakhstan also endured a tough preparation leading up to the series with some visa complications according to website ScrumQueens. They now face a tough second game at the same venue on Saturday’s second leg to overcome the deficit.
The winner of the playoff games in China will contest the 2020 Asian Rugby Women’s Championship with Japan and Hong Kong and potentially an opportunity at the Women’s World Cup.
