Callum Lewis Memorial Trophy 2021
The Callum Lewis Memorial Trophy 2021 is contested by the Chiang Mai Cobras and the Bangkok Southerners in northern Thailand on 23rd October. We love hearing about the various trophies up for grabs across Asia, especially unique silverware that exist between rugby clubs.
The new trophy is one that the two Thai-based social clubs will hope to become an annual memorial XVs match that honours Southerners’ player Callum Lewis who passed away in 2021.
The match will take place at the Ambassador Bilingual School and kicks off at 16.30. The XVs match will be played over 80 minutes played in 4 x 20 min periods.
Chiang Mai Cobras chairman Dave McRitchie said vie the club’s newsletter: “The Southerners are one of the most well-known rugby sides in Thailand. We feel very fortunate that they have chosen to tour Chiang Mai and have asked the Cobras for a match. Many of us have not played 15s in quite some time so this is a great opportunity for both our young players and our more seasoned veterans.”
“This first fixture between Bangkok Southerners Rugby and our hosts the Chiang Mai Cobras is an opportunity for us to celebrate one of our friends and players, Callum Lewis, who was taken from us well before time. So let this fixture be a welcome reminder of why we all play this game for the friendship and camaraderie, plus the post-match pain,” added Darrel Lintott (Head of Southerners Rugby).
