Teams – Bangkok Touch Tournament 2022
In total, 10 touch teams from Thailand and Singapore were involved in the FIT event held at Bangkok Patana School.
The organisers told us: “It had been a while since we were able to host a touch tournament let alone one with international teams!
We had two teams from Singapore: MBFC and Todaks who joined us on the day along with domestic and local teams who also had players travelling from Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai. We were fortunate enough to have missed the rain, so the fields at Bangkok Patana Sports Complex were in perfect condition and even though the afternoon heat was picking up none of the teams slowed down their touch action.”
The 10 touch teams were:
- Banthers
- Pattaya Panthers
- Falconators
- Northern Thailand Barbarians
- MBFC – Singapore
- Todaks – Singapore
- Southerners Black
- Southerners Green
- Southerners Gold
- Thailand GAA
Match Results – Bangkok Touch Tournament 2022
The tournament began with the pool stage matches which were played in the format of 20 minutes with no halftime. Each team had four matches in the pool stage with every team playing one back-to-back game.
At the end of the pool stage, the two touring Singaporean teams were on top, Todaks finished on top in Group A and MBFC in Group B.
The tournament was then split into a Cup Competition for the top 6 teams and a Plate Competition (Championship Cup) for the remaining 4 teams.
For the Plate Competition, the semi-finals were played between Falconators and Thailand GAA with the former winning 3-2, and Banthers beating Northern Thailand Barbarians 7-2.
For the Cup Competition, the Todaks and MBFC had a bye, while Southerners Green beat Pattaya Panthers 5-2, and Southerners Black were victorious over Southerners Gold 6-0.
As the tournament moved into the semi-finals, a nail-biting match saw Southerners Black play MBFC match that ended with Southerners Blacks winning 5-4 and Todaks beating Southerners Green 6-2.
In the action-packed finals of the Champions Cup, Todaks proved too strong for Southerners blacks with set plays and great steps through the middle.
As for the Championship Cup, the Banthers managed to beat Falconators 3-2 in a final which was no less enthralling.
The organiser added, “The fun-filled afternoon came to an end with an award ceremony where the teams collected their silverware and the organisers gave their thanks to everyone who had been instrumental to the tournament from refs to volunteers followed by a few drinks and delicious homemade spring rolls – thanks to Raph and Rose.
The after-party at Clubhouse saw two kegs of beers and the kebab stand demolished in just a few hours followed by some heartbreaks from the Saracens fans after watching the Premiership Final!”
