Bangkok International Rugby 10s 2022 (Cancelled)

Thailand is one of the few nations that has returned to rugby action in 2021 and the Bangkok International Rugby 10s organisers have announced the provisional dates for the tournament in 2022 as 26th & 27th of February.

The popular social tens rugby tournament was one of the last to be played out in 2020 before the global pandemic shut down flights, borders and regional rugby tournaments. It did not have the same fate in 2021 as it was cancelled.

On October 1st 2021, the Bangkok International Rugby Tens Tournament organisers confirmed that the event for 2022 has been cancelled.

The main reasons cited were the uncertainty over travel and potential costs to travelling teams. “Thus, it is with regret, that we announce the cancellation of BIT 2022 but at the same time make the promise that BIT 2023 will be very, very special and we hope to see you then!”

The announcement from the Bangkok Tens said: “On behalf of the Bangkok International Rugby 10’s Committee and our volunteers we are pleased to announce the tentative dates of the 2022 Bangkok Rugby 10’s.”

In addition, they have said that Thailand is scheduled to open up the country to all travel and with no quarantines from October 2021. Phuket is expected to open up as early as July 2021 and plans have been put forward for vaccine passports and reduced quarantine periods for this year.

For social rugby teams interested in joining the Bangkok International Rugby 10’s 2022, you can contact the organisers. They said more information will be released later in 2021 (around October).

Other tours and tournaments in Thailand on a social level have been going ahead and more are being announced for 2021. These include the Pattaya Tens, Phuket Tens, a rumoured Chiang Mai Tens event and a possible Hua Hin tournament.
