Asian Rugby Results: 20th-21st April 2019
There were a number of high profile rugby games taking place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April 2019 across Asia. We look at the results from the Malaysian national team and the Japanese sides involved as well as the Global Rapid Rugby from Hong Kong.
Malaysia men’s XVs vs Singapore Select XV
With the Malaysia men’s team gearing up for their Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 title against Hong Kong and South Korea, they have embarked on the first of three warm-up games. On Saturday they overcame a strong Singapore Select XV 33-24 in Singapore at Queenstown Stadium.
The Malaysia team next plays the Sri Lanka national team in a two-match series on the 2nd and 5th May.
Sanix Blues/Coco-Cola vs Western Force
The Western Force played the first of two games in Japan as they wait for their next Global Rapid Rugby fixture. This weekends game against the local Japanese side Sanix Blues/Coco-Cola in Fukuoka ended in a comfortable win for the Australian franchise 43-7.
The Western Force will take on the Wolf Pack before their away games of the GRR Showcase Series versus Asian Pacific Dragons (Singapore) on the 5th May and the South China Tigers (Hong Kong) on the 12th May 2019.
Wolf Pack vs Hurricanes B
The Japanese Wolf Pack, featuring members of the Japanese national XVs team preparing for the Rugby World Cup and members of the Sunwolves, ran out big winners against New Zealand’s Wellington-based Hurricanes B team 66-21. The result was a big turn around from the same fixture in March this year when Hurricanes B won 52-31.
Global Rapid Rugby: South China Tigers vs Asia Pacific Dragons
The Hong Kong South China Tigers won their first game of the 2019 GRR Showcase Series by defeating fellow Asian side Asia Pacific Dragons 29-19. The two teams will play the reverse fixture in Singapore next week Sunday 28th April.
