Asia Rugby Announce 2024 Match Official Appointments
Asia Rugby has announced a few match-official appointments in August 2024, with George Danapal ending his role as Match Officials Development Consultant, while Dilroy Fernando takes over as the new Match Official Manager. Peter Hudson takes on the role of Match Official Performance Panel Coach.
The regional governing body said that George Danapal, who has served as the Match Officials Development Consultant since 2020 has stopped his role which saw him work with Asia Rugby consultants, member unions, and the EXCO as the lead consultant for the Asia Rugby Referees and Judiciary Committees.
“George’s contributions to the sport are numerous. He served on the Asia Rugby Referees panel from 2006 to 2012, refereed international test matches, and officiated in the Asia Rugby 7s Series. Notably, he officiated at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and served as a Referee Manager at the HSBC World Sevens Series – Singapore 7s in 2019,” said Asia Rugby in a statement.
Dilroy Fernando – Asia Rugby Match Official Manager 2024
Additionally, Dilroy Fernando returns in a new role for him as the new Match Official Manager. The Sri Lankan has more than two decades of experience in match officiating, coaching, and performance reviewing said Asia Rugby.
He will “oversee the logistics of match official operations, maintain comprehensive databases of officials, coaches, and performance reviewers, and ensure strict adherence to budgetary guidelines. He will manage the nominations and appointments process, support performance reviews, and serve as a crucial liaison with team coaches and management on refereeing and law matters,” added Asia Rugby.
Fernando will also play a role in the development of male and female match officials and coaches, organising online courses and discussions.
Asia Rugby Deputy President Mr Terence Khoo said, “Asia Rugby Is excited about M. Dilroy Fernando’s appointment as Match Official Manager. His extensive experience and proven leadership in the field of match officiating will be invaluable in enhancing the standards and development of our match officials.”
Peter Hudson – Asia Rugby Match Official Performance Panel Coach 2024
Finally, Peter Hudson, who has a background in rugby officiating and coaching, as well as experience in operational safety and risk management from his aviation career, has been appointed as the Asia Rugby Match Official Performance Panel Coach.
He will be “responsible for establishing a comprehensive review platform, developing innovative performance structures, and managing feedback processes to enhance the performance of match officials”, as well as liaise with teams, support the Talent Optimisation process, and assist in the selection and appointment of officials while also organise training sessions and support the Match Officials Manager at events.
