Asia-Oceania Rugby Exchange Festival 2023
The Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) has announced plans for the fourth edition of the Asia-Oceania Rugby Exchange Festival which take place at its new elite training facilities JAPAN BASE on the weekend of 9-10 September 2023, which is the same weekend as the opening of the Rugby World Cup 2023.
The Asia-Oceania Rugby Exchange Festival was first held in 2018, set up as a legacy initiative of Rugby World Cup 2019, as part of the tournament’s wider Impact Beyond legacy programme. It since was held in 2019 and in January 2023. The most recent event included teams from Bangladesh, Thailand, Australia, and Japan.
The 2023 edition of the Asia-Oceania Rugby Exchange Festival is co-sponsored by the JRFU and Fukuoka Prefecture Rugby Exchange Promotion Project Committee.
The participating player at the tournament will also see the historic first Sakura Fifteen and the Fijiana test at JAPAN BASE on Sunday, 10 September 2023 (the JRFU link has the wrong date). The test match is part of the Taiyo Seimei Japan Rugby Challenge Series 2023.
Which Teams Are Competing – Asia-Oceania Rugby Exchange Festival 2023
In total five girls and five boys teams play in a seven-a-side tournament on a modified half-size pitch and the visiting players will have the opportunity to take part in “various inter-cultural activities aimed at increasing cultural awareness and building lifelong friendships in rugby,” said the JRFU.
