2024 Touch World Cup – Asian Teams Guide

The 2024 Touch World Cup (TWC) is taking place from July 15 to 21 in Nottingham, UK, with several Asian teams confirmed to be involved. We look at the TWC 2024 Divisions and which Asian teams are represented this year!

FIT (Federation of International Touch) said there has been 72 per cent growth in teams since 1999, so the 2024 TWC will be the largest to date. This is also the first Touch World Cup to be held in five years.

They confirmed that more 187 teams comprising 4,000+ participants from nearly 39 nations are competing across 13 divisions!

Chinese Taipei

The Chinese Taipei Touch Association has entered one team at the 2024 Touch World Cup – in the Mixed Open Division.

Touch Singapore (TSG) TWC 2024 Squads

Touch Singapore has sent Men’s and Women’s Opens squads, as well as Men’s 30s, Women’s 27s, Women’s 35s, Men’s 40s, and Men’s 50s teams to Touch World Cup 2024.

TSG first confirmed the Men’s and Women’s Open touch teams to represent Singapore at the TWC 2024. In March 2024, the Singapore National Men’s Open Team won the Men’s Open B at The Championships hosted by Touch Football Australia. They also toured Japan in September 2023 as part of their preparations and hosted touch teams from England in March 2024.

Hong Kong China Touch – TWC 2024 Squads

Hong Kong China will enter the Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s 30s, Men’s 40s, Women’s 27s and Mixed 30s categories at TWC 2024 and will be participating in the World Cup’s inaugural Masters Divisions.

Dr. Diana Li, Chairlady of Hong Kong China Touch, said, “An incredible 100 players and coaching staff will form our representative squads, and the fact we are now sending six teams shows the remarkable growth of the sport in Hong Kong. With our largest overseas representation to date, everyone is excited to step onto the field and give it our all.

“As the Chairlady and also a player this year, I closely feel the passion of rugby players in Hong Kong and what they are capable of. I am confident in expanding, promoting and uplifting the sport of rugby and touch in the coming years.”

In the squads are five players who have represented Hong Kong China in 7s or XVs rugby; CHEUK Ming Yin Ricky, KWONG Sau Yan Ivy, CHEUNG Ho Ning Charles, KWOK Ka Hei, LO Tan Tung.

International referee Sunny Lee is also a Team Manager.

Hong Kong China Rugby’s new CEO, James Farndon said at the Hong Kong China Touch team’s event before departing for TWC 2024, “It was fantastic to get this opportunity to meet players and coaches, who I know are sending our biggest contingent to date to a Touch World Cup. I will be in the UK during the tournament, and I am fortunate enough to be heading to Nottingham to support the teams as part of my trip.”
