2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship
The 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship will be held in Vejle, Denmark from 10-16 October, and the Japanese team are the top-ranked nation at the championships.
In total, 12 nations will be competing in the tournament in Denmark – the pools were confirmed back in July 2022. Japan is in Pool B with Australia, Canada, Denmark, Brazil, and Colombia. The Japanese won the World Championship in 2018 in Sydney, Australia, and are the defending champions.
Japan are also the only Asian team at the WWR World Championship having qualified following the cancellation of the 2022 WWR Asia/Oceania Championship.
WWR World Championship 2022
The 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship starts on Monday, October 10, 2022, with an opening ceremony at which includes the participation of HRH Princess Benedikte, the patron of Parasport Denmark, Vejle mayor Jens Ejner Christensen, and Parasport Denmark’s president John Petersson.
The 12 teams were drawn into two pools of six, with the top four teams advancing to the quarterfinals. This is the first Wheelchair Rugby World Championship to include quarterfinals.

Japan Fixtures – 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship
A total of 46 games will be played on two courts in DGI Huset Vejle, with a capacity of 1.200 spectators said the organisers.

The top eight teams will feature in the quarter-finals on Friday, October 14th, the same day as the 9th-12th placement matches.
On Saturday, October 15th the semi-finals will take place, while the losers of the quarter-finals will play 5th-8th placement matches. The 9th-10th and 11th-12th placing matches will also be played.
The World Championship will conclude on Sunday, October 16th with the final placing matches, including the bronze and gold medal matches.
