100 World Legends Rugby for Life Camp 2019
100 World Legends are heading to Laos this July to run a Rugby for Life Camp 2019. The camp is set to take place from 16-20 July in Vientiane in Laos with a coaching team consisting of Tamara Taylor, Grace Davitt, Todd Clever, David Corkery and Dan Scarbrough.
Rugby for Life Laos
The 100 World Legends aims to expand the Rugby for Life project to other countries in the region in the future said a Facebook post by David Higgins, who is involved in organising 100 World Legends. However, this will be the second visit by the organisation to Laos to support the ongoing rugby development.
Over the past four years, youth participation in rugby in Laos has grown by 900 percent, with a high female participation rate at over 50%. Many of these youth are coming out of the tag rugby program available through their schools and are seeking to join a senior club team in their area; however, without safe spaces to practice and proper instruction, transitioning from tag rugby to contact in order to compete with other club teams can be a daunting challenge.
The Rugby for Life camp will aim to provide players from rural Laos with an opportunity to learn to play contact rugby safely. They hope this will serve as an entry point for continuing to play rugby into adulthood.
